ePlatform School Spotlight of the Week: Oaks Park High School, Redbridge, United Kingdom
We reached out to Leigh, their LRC Manager to see how they were keeping their students engaged with digital reading. Read their response below.
I absolutely love ePlatform and so do all of our staff and students. I organised, in a two week window, library sessions on ePlatform training with all of our year 7 and 8 students - we asked the students to take out a classic book each.
I customised the browsing page into three categories:
Try these books!
Try a new genre!
Classics
I found that this was a good way to engage the students even more - as this directed the students to the classic books easily and quickly.
Our visually impaired students find the customising of the pages extremely helpful and the quantity of books that they can now read in large print is huge (we have large print books in the LRC, however, as you know with printed LP books, the quantity of titles is not huge). One of our VI students wanted to read a Sherlock Holmes book for homework, however, we did not have the title in our LP section, so we checked on ePlatform and there it was! Our student is now happily reading Sherlock Holmes along with all the other students in his class!
The customising of the pages for our VI and dyslexic students is amazing. Other students also love customising the pages - especially the coloured backgrounds - just for fun.
We use Accelerated Reader at Oaks Park and the students are coming in and logging into AR to do their quizzes on the books that they have read at home on ePlatform. We have found ePlatform to be an amazing tool for getting the students to read more at home and on the go!
I have been singing ePlatform's praises to all my Librarian friends, even hosting an event for James to come along and speak to my peers.
