ePlatform School Spotlight of the Week  - Meadowside Primary School

We reached out to Catherine Mellersh their literacy coordinator who launched Meadowside's ePlatform on the 18th of September 2018, which was purchased for the school by the fantastic fundraising efforts of their PTA - Friends of Meadowside. See some key initiatives they have implemented and an overview of their experiences with ePlatform and Wheelers below:

Our parents have been very positive about our new ePlatform! Their comments on our Facebook post included “amazing” and “fantastic”!

One of the best features that I have used is the sleep function! The parents said they liked it because it meant that they could limit how long the child stayed awake!!

I ran an assembly on Monday to launch our ePlatform, where I had 100 books on a table at the front of the hall and asked a child to try and carry all 100! (He managed 16!).  I then told the school that our PTA - Friends of Meadowside - had bought every child in the school over 1500 books to take home with them that night (!!) but not to worry, that they came in the format of the bookmarks you kindly sent in!

The children then went back to their classes so that they could look in more detail at how the website worked (I had primed staff to do this) and in our reading sessions with the children over this week and next, each teacher is showing the children exactly how to log in and borrow a book so that they will know how to do it, even if their parents don’t have the time to do it with them at home.

It was very useful to run a quick ‘how to’ in one of our staff meetings so staff would be able to explain the system to the children.

This level of school, class and group-based promotion is obviously working as we have reached our simultaneous audiobook subscription limit every day this week!!!

Our usage is still in its infancy as we only launched on Monday so I don’t yet know if uptake will increase or not! It has certainly proved very popular this week. Every day has seen at least one parent come to us to praise the system, and that hardly ever happens!!!!
