ePlatform School Spotlight of the Week: Manhurangi College
We reached out to Jeanette Cornege, their Librarian to see how they were keeping their students engaged with digital reading. See some key initiatives they have implemented below.
• At the beginning of the year, we have introduction sessions with the Year 7 students. In this, we promote and demonstrate the ePlatform. All students are assisted through the process of downloading the app and borrowing an ebook or Audiobook
• We joined a secondary consortium which has dramatically increased our number of books. This makes it more appealing for our staff and our students. We could not have had the variety we have without the consortium.
• To help our year 7 & 8 students find their level of reading, we created a compilation just for them.
• This year, Year 9 English classes are undertaking a reading challenge. When they came to the library for the first time this year we gave an ePlatform refresher session. This year we have Audiobooks which are proving popular for their class reading challenge.
• We also do refresher sessions with all other year levels when they come in for book selection.
• At the end of term, we promote reading for the holidays. Students are allowed to borrow extra books. At the same time, we promote our ePlatform. Also, we advertise in the daily notices and the weekly email newsletter to parents.
• We made some bookmarks that are put into our print books highlighting these are also available as ebooks or Audiobooks.
