ePlatform School Spotlight of the Week - Lindisfarne College
We reached out to Bev Harrison who's been seeing some real successes with Lindisfarne College's Audio ePlatform digital library. Bev wrote us an overview of their experiences with ePlatform and Wheelers - have a read below.
Lindisfarne College is a Boarding and Day College for Boys Years 7 - 13, located in Hastings, New Zealand.
"We have been very pleased with the response to audiobooks at Lindisfarne. We don’t have ebooks and so I was not sure how the process of setting up audiobooks would go but I can honestly say it has been an absolute breeze on my part.
All the instructions were very easy to follow and it is great that the logon process can be customised to suit each school. The whole process was very smooth and efficient. Our boys have found it very easy to access audio books and to borrow them.
We modified the logon details slightly for teachers and I have demonstrated the process of logging on and borrowing audio books to the staff and encouraged them to take books out for the holidays. One of our teachers was sceptical as he had never listened to an audiobook before and was not sure how much he would retain but he was delighted to find that his retention of the book was exactly the same as if he had read it!
To promote audiobooks to the students, I went round to each English class and demonstrated how to logon and borrow a book. We listened to some of the samples, and that created a lot of interest. An unexpected result of audiobook usage developed when a boy, who has listened to several audiobooks asked me to get the print version of further books in a series so that he can read on. Our English teachers have been particularly enthusiastic about audiobooks and feel that they are of particular benefit to students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties.
Our English teachers have decided to allow our boys to choose an audiobook for one of their personal responses required for their English assessments."
