One of the most exciting areas of eBooks is the ability to personalise your reading experience. This could be choosing font styles and sizes, line and character spacing, background colours and more. This type of customisation is particularly helpful for those people with reading challenges, whether that be dyslexia or poor eyesight.
To help illustrate how easy it is to change eBooks’ display in ePlatform, we’ve put together some simple steps below as a ‘how to’ guide.
For eBooks to be compatible with our dyslexia (and other) settings, they need to be .epub format rather than .pdf format. The .epub titles are identified by a green strip down the left hand side of the cover image, as below.
Once looking at title information, simply Borrow the book in the usual way (you may need to log in before this).
Having borrowed the title, select the Read Now button to open the title within your browser. Most modern browsers are compatible (eg. Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc), but Internet Explorer must be either version 10 or 11.
Once inside the title, click/tap the Settings option to be taken to the customisable settings.
Scroll down, and roughly two thirds of the way down the page are options to automatically apply Night Time Reading Settings (good for Irlens syndrome), or Dyslexia settings (you can also Reset to Default settings if required). After having selected one of these, click/tap Continue Reading to return to the eBook.
Each time you select “Apply Dyslexia Settings” will change the colour theme, so you can scroll through alternatives until you find one that suits you.
